1967 - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Many people consider Sgt. Pepper to be the birth of rock n roll as "art." I would say that's not giving enough credit to some of the great albums that came out in 1965 and 1966 that set the table for Sgt. Pepper but I certainly do understand the point. Pepper should be looked at in context to completely understand it's importance in the history of popular music. But I think it only needs to be listened to with open ears to understand the brilliance of the music. And no, it's not overrated. Any album that ends with "A Day In The Life" cannot be overrated.
